Frequently Asked Questions

-Q: How do I specify that I apply for the scholarship in addition to the programme?
-A: In the application form ([PDF] or [DOC]), you need to do write in "Media and Arts Technology Scholarship" in the box "How do you intend to finance your studies at Queen Mary".

-Q: My research is practice based, is that problematic?
-A: Not in principle. We consider applications on practice-based research. The main thing would be to demonstrate that you want to do a Ph.D. which is typically a more extended and sustained piece of work and that you could write, to the right standard, a thesis.

-Q: Can I submit a CD / DVD in support of my application?
-A: Yes, that would be fine as supporting material.

-Q: I have professional commitments that I would like to pursue. Can I enrol to this programme and do other things at the same time?
-A: This might be a problem depending on the level of commitment. The Media and Arts Technology programme is full-time. There are also requirements that you aren't away from QMUL for more than 35 days a year. You also need to attend 4 full-time modules in the first year so there might well be conflicts.

-Q: The application form asks for a research proposal. What should this cover?
-A: We do not expect people to fix their Ph.D. research project, or supervisor, until the end of the first year of the Media and Arts Technology programme. However it would be helpful at this stage if you could provide an indication of the kinds of research question and possible project(s) that interest you.
